Before AKJ confirms a price, it asks six questions about your vehicle. This page explains how to answer each one well, with an example answer for each and a full example message at the end. The examples are made up to show the format; they are not real vehicles.
1. Year, make and model
Your registration shows the year, make and model. Add the trim if you can: it is usually on a badge on the trunk lid or tailgate, or in the original sales papers. Two cars with the same model name can differ in engine, equipment and value, and the trim tells a buyer which one you have.
If it isn't a car, say what it is: AKJ also buys trucks, equipment and forklifts, EVs and hybrids, running or not, and vehicles from outside BC.
Example: 2014 Honda Civic LX sedan.
2. Kilometres
Read the odometer with the ignition on. If the dash won't light up, give the last reading you know and where it came from, such as the oil-change sticker on the windshield or a service receipt.
Example: About 212,000 km, from the last oil-change sticker. The dash won't light.
3. Where the vehicle is
Give the city and the kind of spot it is in, plus anything that would slow down a pickup, such as a pass needed for visitor parking or another car blocking it in.
Example: Surrey, in a townhouse complex visitor stall. A visitor pass is needed to enter.
4. Any missing parts
List anything that has been taken off or swapped since the vehicle left the factory. It is easy to forget swapped wheels, a removed battery or a stereo taken out.
This is the answer that matters most. AKJ honours a price it has confirmed in writing unless the vehicle turns out to have missing parts, so a complete list now means the price we confirm reflects the vehicle we collect. how AKJ's written price works
Example: Battery removed. The original alloy wheels were swapped for old steel ones.
5. Any mechanical problems
You don't need to know the cause. Describe what happens. "Doesn't run" can mean quite different things, so say which one fits:
- Nothing happens when you turn the key, or you only hear a click.
- It turns over but won't start.
- It starts but won't stay running.
- It runs but won't drive, or won't go into gear.
Then add anything else you know: which warning lights are on and whether they stay on or flash, any leaks, noises, or smells. For damage, say where it is, what is broken, and whether it affects how the vehicle drives.
Example: Turns over but won't start since last winter. The check-engine light was on before that. Front passenger corner hit; headlight broken.
6. Any money owing
Say whether there is a loan or lien on the vehicle. Whether AKJ can buy it depends on the vehicle's condition, which is explained in our selling guide.
Example: No loan or lien.
Photos
Photos let us see the vehicle's condition before anyone travels to look at it. Take them in daylight and include any damage.
